My Life As A Dog (Mommy)

Posted on Saturday 21 May 2005

Saturday morning and I’m planning my day. First things first though, Ally da pup likes to go out and do her bidness EARLY in the morning. She walks in my bedroom, stands by the side of my bed and stares at me. When I say stare imagine beams of light to your eyes lol. If that doesn’t wake me up, she then sits down heavily in her dog bed and sighs loudly. OY!!! I stagger out of bed, throw on the first clothes I see, (which often do not match but who the heck cares at that time of day??? Besides after so many years of this I am immune to shame :-) ) Of course once outside, I often run into the “perky” people. Scary individuals I might add. To have that much energy at such an ungodly hour is just bizarre. And it still amuses me that among “the dog people” many of them know Ally’s name but not mine, (despite seeing each other on an ongoing basis!) I guess that’s fair though cause I don’t know that many of their names either. Ally da pup does her thing, gets a dog treat for her “achievement” and back home we go. At that point I’m ready to mainline coffee – only Zabar’s of course. Their coffee beans rock! I’ve been drinking their coffee for well over 15 years. Anyhoo, check out Zabar’s Blend.

After I get a cup in me and I’m beginning to function again, Ally is ready for her breakfast. I know this cause she has a very good “tummy alarm.” At the precise moment I usually feed her I’m being stared at again. I go feed her, (gosh I’m well trained,) and then pour a second cup of coffee. At that point Ally starts to bring me teddy bears to throw. Many are well loved aka decapitated, missing a limb, stuffing coming out etc… I throw the bear numerous times and Ally runs across the wood floor to chase it, (I bet my downstairs neighbors just LOVE me.) I then finish my second cup of coffee and it’s time to go outside again. I truly can’t believe this has been my routine for well over 7 years but there ya go. All it takes is one look at that smiling, happy, adorable, furry face and I’m ready to do it all over again.

I tried to reply, don’t know if I did it right. Loved the essay. YOu are a good writer. So glad I have a doggie door. Would never have the fortitude to do that for 7 years ;-)
