Guilty Pleasures

Posted on Thursday 28 July 2005

Everyone has a few guilty pleasures. Things we may not admit to the world, (except perhaps at gunpoint,) that float our boats and make us smile. I’ve got more than a few… some of which I will reluctantly admit.

“The Bachelor/The Bachelorette”

It’s incredibly dumb but I adore it anyway. These people fall madly in “love” after being cooped up in a house for days and fed copious amounts of alcohol. And I work in tv, I have a pretty good idea of what is happening behind the scenes.

2- Costco

So much stuff! And there’s always a challenge to find something new and wonderful hidden away in that vast warehouse. And darned good frozen tilapia I might add.

3- The National Enquirer

I’m truly hiding my head in shame on this one. But, no I do NOT buy it, I just read it at the hairdressers. Vogue and Harpers Bazaar can get boring. Hey, where else can you get “the true story” about Michael Jackson? Actually, I think some of it is probably true.

4- Funnel Cake

It’s a deep fried piece of dough, braided into a circle, completely covered with powdered sugar. YUM! Guaranteed to send you into insulin shock.

5- Musicals

OK, I’m a total dork. But, how you can resist “A Chorus Line,” or “A Little Night Music,” or even “The Music Man?” “Good night my someone, good night my love…”

Time to slink away now :-)

Costco..I go in for a bag of the pot stickers, and come out $150 later. How does this happen? LOVE the lobster spread.

Just finished Average Joe and am thrilled the weird looking pretty girl chose Average Joe over unemployed wanna be actor hunk (let’s see how long it lasts)

For me; the aforementioned Diet Coke. Orange roses I buy for myself from the rose man who comes to our office (2 dozen for $15). They have lots of thorns, but so did many of the guys I met. The roses are a lot cheaper!

Shoes. TRY getting me to walk past a shoe store. How is it no other woman has said “shoes” on here yet? Please don’t ask how many pairs I have. Suffice to say when I gave 18 pairs to a lady at work to send to Haiti (along with clothes) I didn’t even miss them.

Yes Lisa, you and I share many of the same guilty pleasures. If you ever come to Dallas, I will hook you up with some of the Striped Shirt Guys & get you an appt. at deNoVo.

Bachelor/Bachelorette are pure greatness. But since they aren’t on, I am making do with Real World, Laguna Beach & Big Brother. My H has no idea why a 37 year old married mom would watch those shows, but again they’re “guilty pleasures.”

And the Costco thing, I am there every weekend. You’ve got to get the Spinach Salad or Greek Salad kits if you haven’t tried them. And there’s nothing like a 2 lb. lobster tail. Top it off with a new book & some of that trail mix stuff with the m&m’s & you are set!!! Have a good day!

    Chocolate truffles from Costco.
    Homemade gumbo.
    Oreo Cookies.
    Margaritas made the right way.
    Americano with Rassberry creamer.

Mine are all food and drink, WTF?

    Jennifer Garner, she’s not food…

I have many things that please me, but none that make me feel guilty. Well maybe that I spend on a car what a normal person spends on a house, but that is one guilt I can live with. Work hard play hard! As far as Costco, I have yet to have that pleasure.

OK, This is real immature (no Marty, you immature?) but I always do this in Costco.I find the aisle w/the 5 lb cans of baked beans and as I pass them I make farting noises (not actual farts, I’m not that talented)

    Marty, who DOESN’T do that?

Cheers to Linny for not feeling guilty!

I live for show called “MXC” on Spike. It is so, so, wrong. Those poor Japanese people. And it’s so funny I can hardly watch through the tears and laughter.

Guilty? Moi? But I probably should.

I don’t feel guilty about any of mine either!! But perhaps they’re just not that bad? I watch Nanny 911, sometimes I laugh and there have been times where I have cried. Also, I watch the O.C. I love that show and last but not least, I watch Newlyweds with Jessica Simpson and Nick Lache, and it’s funny damnit!

Marty that’s pretty funny about the beans, I would love to go shopping with you.

When I go to the store, I usually find the biggest box of depends that I can find and then I walk around with them for awhile making sure everyone can see me. And it’s even better if I’m shopping with my mom or sister in law, then I usually yell out, “Don’t you need more depends?? Do you want super ultra absorbent or just regular?” Yeah, I’m sick, but I do make me laugh.

I enjoy The Bachelor too which is Really bad because I’m black, so this show is not supposed to strike a chord with me! It’s funny to watch how diplomatic the guy tries to be when letting go of the token black girl, it never happens the first few rounds, that would be too “obvious”. Love Funnel Cakes (had one at SixFlags just about a week ago), Love Musicals too and recent favs include Moulin Rouge and Chicago .
