Isn’t it funny how certain songs immediately take you back to a different time in your life? I was listening to a classic rock station the other day, and an oldie brought back a long forgotten memory of another era. Here are a few of my special songs through the years, in no particular order.
Crocodile Rock
It was a slumber party at Diane’s house way back when. The song came on the radio and all the girls danced wildly around the living room while belting out “I remember when rock was young…”
Bennie and The Jets
Slow dancing with Brian C. at a school dance. We had a big crush on each other. SCHWING!
Love Shack
Getting looped in a limo on the way to an awards ceremony, and everyone singing at the top of their lungs with champagne glasses in hand.
Pink Floyd – The Wall (entire album)
Ahhhh. I am not going into any detail, but suffice to say Patrick M. and I had an amazing sexual experience that lasted the duration of the album. YUM! I still smile when I hear that music.
Fantasy
Working with Earth Wind and Fire on a shoot, and hearing them sing that song as they were warming up. Seriously cool.
Bohemian Rhapsody
One of my favorite concerts EVER. Queen rocked the joint!
Cocaine
Sitting in on an Eric Clapton rehearsal for an upcoming tour, and then hanging out with him and friends afterwards. It was such an awesome experience and fyi, he is a sweetheart! And no we didn’t get stoned
Let’s hear a few of yours!
Veritgo/U2: some of the hottest kisses, ever. Actually that entire CD by U2 is the soundtrack to a very passionate time in my life.
Funny you mention Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” – I remember hearing that album for the first time in high school at a friends house – we smoked a ton of reefer and just grooved. (Sounds like you had more fun…!)
This Patrick must have been pretty amazing. The Wall is a long album.
311 “Amber”
Last night in my lover’s arms a year ago, best moments ever shared with a special someone, also the song that was played on the radio the first time i went to nyc, driving towards the city in the night…magic
Dave Matthews Angel
The cult song, preparation for Martini Night. Picture girls singing at the top of their lungs, glasses in hands, make up and clothes everywhere, the party excitement getting stronger and stronger untill all the glasses are down and everyone is conveiced to look fabulous……..Aaaaaah nice memories!
Madonna Ray of light
the song of new year’s eve party 2001, wild dancing and champagne drinking straight from the bottle. Hilarious.
Californication (album)
the music of my road trip through arizona, new mexico, utah and colorado everyone in the bus singing, even at night everyone would stand up and sing all the way to Vegas!
I played Seal’s “Don’t Cry” extended mix CD over and over again all through my first two years of college.
It came in handy.
Out Loud by Dispatch. Freshman year of college (which was only like 4 years ago). It get’s me every time and I can still listen to it over and over again and think about how craptastic that year was.
Did you really just say “SCHWING!”? ‘Cause that rocks.
I like “Piggies” by The Beatles, it’s the song I listened to while I was digging a hole in the backyard for my first (ex) wife.
GIrls Just Wanna Have fun- Slumber party in 6th grade
Beastie Boys– It’s TIme to get Ill- The whole album. Reminded me of a time of innocence and fun
Curtis Blow- My cousin break dancing on cardboard boxes in the neighborhood
Tears for Fears- The time my mom and her boyfriend took us driving across 13 states on the east coast. My very first time in NYC at the age of 8.
Def Leopard- Pour Some Sugar on Me- MTV’s first launch and chilling with my fave uncle Leon
Those were the days
Oh wow, you ARE exciting! I am going to steal this to do on my site, sometime, OK?
P.S. How come Eric and his band were such ASSHOLES when they came into my restaurant, then? It was the late 70’s, I think maybe ‘79.
Laurie – Just a different kind of fun
Neil – Absofreakinglutely.
Mo – Your road trips sounded fun!
Pauly D – Awww and lol.
Heather – Welcome! Craptastic is quite a word lol. Sorry it sucked.
Armaedes – I did and thanks
Tovah – Cool beans!
Annie – My life has not been dull hehe. You may steal it but I want credit!!!
No clue. But it was not quite as long ago so maybe there had been an attitude adjustment?
Dire Straits: Romeo and Juliet.
They have a line “when we made love you used to cry”
Enough said.
Queen’s one of the best rock bands ever. Period. “Tie Your Mother Down” is one of the best rock songs ever. Period.
You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling: I always think of Tom Cruise singing to Kelly McGillis when I hear this one. It’s also one of my all time favorite Karaoke sings (when you can actually get me up there, that is.)
Pour Some Sugar On Me: It AMAZES me how popular this song still is. I loved Def Leppard in the 80’s and I still love them. They put on one hell of a concert back in 1999. For a bunch of aging British guys, they can still rock! (Also, the ONLY song I’ve ever jumped up on a bar and danced to. I was 22 and drunk… what can you do?)
Everything I Do (I Do it for You): Yeah, I know. It’s cheesy, but I love Bryan Adams. Also a great live act.
Lisa, what do you do for a living that puts you up close and personal with all of these great acts? I’m so jealous!
Mosh Pit. Offspring concert in Calgary. I went down. 3 wonderful strangers saved my life by helping me back to my feet.
DMB’s Two Step. I’m not a huge DMB fan but damn, that song brings back some good memories.
Bily Joel: You may be right
“…I may be crazy. But it just may be a looonatic you’re lookin for!”
Full Moon seranading .
Like I needed to explain…
HWS – Great lyrics – awesome in fact.
Copyranter – I love Queen! And Freddie Mercury in concert was not to be believed.
The BLS – I work in showbiz. And while there are some crapola jobs there are also some really good ones
Wade – You party animal you!
Lizzie – Some songs definitely do!
D-Man – My favorite poet! And definitely a lunatic but in a really really good way
Did you eat your meat before you had any pudding?
There are oh so many, but Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer” always makes me think of one particular guy. What a boy……What a summer!
You really brought back memories with all those songs! I think each song sort of triggers the time and place you heard it, and who you were with. I was even getting looped when Love Shack was around, but——not in a limo unfortunately…more like in the back of my friend’s Camaro passing around a doobie. ha!
There’s class for ya!
Too many to mention but two come to mind:
Super Freak – 8th grade, my dance partner and I won a school dance contest.
Bad Mama Jama – Also 8th grade, during a break from play rehearsal me and some girlfiends just suddenly started singing it.
Everybody Wants to Rule the World – When I was a senior in highschool, a very close friend of mine died. This was one of his favorite songs. I still get teary eyed when I hear it.
Those were all great choices, even the song Love Shack by the B 52’s !
New Years Day by U2 always calls up some very nice memories, as well as Pink Floyds The Wall album and Joan Jett’s Jukebox song (can’t recall the name but I can hear it in my head LOL)
Almost everything by Tom Petty, Bon Jovi and a few songs by Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Don Henly, The Eagles and so on, etc. hehe
I love Hoobastank’s “The Reason”. But let’s see? Older ones: Elton John: “Grow Some Funk of Your Own”, B-52’s “Revolution Earth”, Cher: “If I Could Turn Back Time”, Doors: “L.A. Woman”, Don McLean: “American Pie”.
OMG, you got to hang out with GOD? I worship you….
Let’s see…..
Hearing Sarah MacLachlan’s “Angel” on the car radio when I went to drive away from the hospital after my husband’s mother passed away.
Hearing Fleetwood Mac’s “Fleetwood Mac” album puts me right in San Diego in my best friend’s barracks room…drinking tequila and chillin’. (1076…and she’s still my best friend!) And I have to sing along to “Rhiannon!”
Bennie and the Jets: Had a housemate who practiced that song ENDLESSLY on the piano all hours of the day and night. I had girlfriends who wanted to kill the guy!
