Yet another edition of my guilty pleasures… and what the heck does “Dog Days of Summer” mean anyway? Never mind, I googled it, here ya go. Don’t say I never do anything for you guys! Anyway without further ado, here are a few things that make me a happy camper.
Playing Hooky From Work:
Love this one. Not so profitable but I love it all the same. The best is walking around Central Park watching the world go by. Even better than that is sitting on a bench eating a Dove bar. Heaven.
Icy Alcoholic Drinks:
Pass the Absolut Vodka with Newman’s Own Lemonade please. And can you make it a double? My summer cooling off drink. What a nice way to enjoy the sultry nights in a semi buzzed state. I don’t drink much the rest of the year but for some reason this really floats my boat.
Casinos:
Mohegan Sun anyone? Or how about a quickie trip to Atlantic City? OK, maybe AC after this is over with. Anyway, I go just often enough that the casinos send me free room vouchers. Last time I won so they all want me back. *Smirks*
Outlet Malls:
A dangerous hobby even though I go to “save” money. Yea right. I find all sorts of things I never knew I needed. Maybe I should keep my shopping in New York. Cause heaven knows there is nothing good to buy in the city. Sigh. If only.
Summer Beach Reads:
A perennial favorite. I have no desire to read “literature” in the summer. Bring on the lite reading! I’m totally addicted to these books right now.
Your turn!
HAPPY SUMMER!!!!
I love outlet malls in the summertime. In fact, I feel the need to head to one very soon! Hello Wrentham, MA! Maybe we will bump into each other at one of these someday, Lisa!
Unfortunately I have to put off guilty pleasures during the summer for the 3rd one in a row. We always have someone quit at work every summer and they are soooooo slow at replacing them that the summer has long gone. On the bright side…kinda….I make more money I guess.
Mr. Freeze Pops. My inner child throws a temper tantrum if I don’t get one once in awhile.
Is somebody with a Y-chromosome even ALLOWED to read those books?
I would think the Thought Police would arrest any guy who even OPENED one of those books.
In the Summer, Real Men read books that start out,
” There was a desert wind blowing that night. It was one of those hot
dry Santa Anas that come down through the mountain passes and curl your
hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that
every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of
the carving knife and study their husband’s necks. Anything can happen.
You can even get a full glass of beer at a cocktail lounge.”
Hi Lisa: I’m in downtown Tampa taking a lunch break. Cool books! I’ll go to Atlantic City if you’ll be my Tour Guide. I only saw the Movie–never been there!!!
it just blows my mind that this AC shit happened the ONE WEEK my husband planned to go. last time my husband won like $400 in the course of 2 hours at the Texas Hold’em table and he never got any vouchers. bastards!
Well, there’s always Daffy’s and Loehmann’s if you can’t make it to the outlet malls…. Excellent places to go for retail therapy!
And I can’t believe the NJ government – I’m embarrassed to live in this state…. How dare they go around screwing everyone’s summer plans! I’m proud to say that I didn’t vote for our governor. Oooo… they just cut into my regularly scheduled program to report that a deal is imminent!!! Riiiiiiiiggghhhhttt……
I went to Woodbury commons on my way back to DC from Albany. I had to give myself a 1 hour time limit. In that one hour I bought exessive stuff from Banana Republic as well as two things from Kate Spade. Awesome. I LOVE outlets.
Reading for hours in an air conditioned room. Watching the sun set – anywhere. Shopping. Hot nights at a bar/club with girlfriends. Bombay Sapphire and Tonics. Summer work hours. The only place we differ is the casinos… I’ve only been to one, ever!
Century. Twenty-one.
And, pass the vodka lemonades, girly. My favorite summertime drink!
I am currently reading Prep – very sophisticated reading.
Let me know if you like those books & recommend them – I saw them at B&N and thought they had a cute trendy cover – therefore – I must read them.
Ice cold canteloupe, tank tops without a bra, and now I have a favorite: white russians made by kaluha (you didnt’ think I meant the MEN, did you???)
We HAVE to get together, my dear. It will be what Oprah dishes on next season!
LOL, I try and keep the ice out of my drinks — takes up too much room in the glass!
Nat – Happy Summer to you!!!
And I would love to meet at an outlet mall sometime
Mike – I think it if were me, I would take a few days off, thus forcing them to hire someone faster you know? 3 years? OY!
And I’ll share my Fall guilty pleasures with you
Serra – LOL. I’ve gotten kinda addicted to The Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches too. The mint ones are yummy!
Zen Wizard – You are so funny! Thank you for clearing up what “real men” read
Michael – Enjoy Tampa! As for AC, if it ever opens again that might be a plan! Except I’m no Susan Sarandon lol.
Dawn – That sucks! Damn the bad luck
Luckysevn – I love the expression “retail therapy!”
And yep, NJ is not winning points with a lot of folks right now…
Heather B. – I want to go shopping with you one time! All that in ONE hour? You’re good, girl!
Oob – Great list! And maybe we need to hit the quarter machines sometime
Blogger road trip to AC?!
Allison – Should I make yours a double too?
Mappy B. – LOL. I really liked the first two books, “Something Borrowed,” and “Something Blue,” very much. They are kinda sequels and very well written. As for “Baby Proof,” well not so much. I found it a bit preachy. But the other two are definitely worth the read!
And I liked the covers too
Tish – Hon I like your style! I can’t wait to hang with you
Uisce – Yes the ice DOES take a lot of room hehe.
Never been to AC, but would check it out. I’ll always have a soft spot for Vegas.
Something that makes me a happy camper…Hamburger Cake!
Floats your boat? You got that much vodka at home?
(Oh wait, I forgot about the lemonade. Well, yeah, but even so…..)
Is pleasuring yourself a guilty pleasure? Not sure.
Every day is summer for me now. I like the Dove Bar and junk reading. I can remember when getting stoned in a hammock and listening to the sound of the earth was just the best thing ever.
It all sounds fabulous. I’ll be right there to share it with you!
And by right there I mean most likely never. But boy do I wish!
Up here in the beautiful north we have an incredible cottage country, and hundreds of lakes. What I love about summer is driving up north and just lounging or boating the weekend away. It is as close to heaven as you get!
Think I’ll have to get a hold of those Emily Griffin books you’re reading…
I’m two hours from Mohegan, I’ll meet you there!!!
Sitting in the outdoor dining sections of restaurants and bars with salty food, beer, and sunglasses to people-watch from behind.
