How I Spent my Thanksgiving Holiday

Posted on Thursday 30 November 2006

I hope you all had a fabulous Thanksgiving! I did the usual, spent time with Mom, saw extended family and special friends, helped prepare our holiday fare, and last but not least shopped on Black Friday. We were at the mall at 5:45 a.m., and for all you naysayers, well piffle on you. We SCORED damn it! A Coach lookalike purse that I had my eye on for weeks was marked down 30% plus 20% plus another 20% for buying it before 9:00 a.m.. Some of my other bargains were shoes, clothing, and the piece de resistance, a portable grill that we saw on Food Network. Great for my healthy lifestyle, and the best part is that I can throw the grill racks in the dishwasher. Mom and I also did holiday shopping for each other so we both could pick exactly what we wanted. No surprises but no returns either. SO MUCH easier than shipping! We also found her beautiful wool pants, marked down to 1/5 their original price. She was thrilled. And a couple of cookbooks she had really wanted. 40% off thank you very much!

Oh and did I mention I ate too much over the holidays? News flash, huh. But, but, there were homemade mashed potatoes with butter and stuff, How was I supposed to turn THAT down? I’m guessing one or two of you MIGHT have also indulged. But, the good news is that I lost a pound. Which means I have now lost 21 pounds total. Yay me!

How did you spend your holidays? I can’t wait to hear!

Good to see you back and glad you had a good holiday.

Never understood the Black Friday thing. If you know ahead of time that it will be the busiest shopping day of the year, lines will be awful, parking a mess, tensions high…why go? The deals you get on that day are actually the same as the ones you’ll get a week or two later, sometimes worse.

    Ah well.

You *lost* weight over Thanksgiving?! That’s just wrong! Having the b-day right after, has just extended the feasting for me. Yummmmm! *sophmom puffs out her fat cheeks indicating that she’s feelin’ really fat* That’s a cool looking little grill you got there. I’m bettin’ that’s perfect for livin’ in da city. :)

    He, he, you said rack.

You may have indeed scored (he, he, you said scored, too) some great bargains, but I could never give up that much sleep time to buy cheap stuff. Though I did brave Black Friday at a more reasonable hour and had pleasant shopping experiences with some good price savings.

Our Thanksgiving was actually quite nice. Low stress, good food, pleasant company. Incredibly, I had a house full of Italians and there was no loud talking or shouting across the table. I believe that’s a first in my family.

the deals on Black Friday are awesome, but I just cannot handle the insane (and rude!) crowds – not to mention spending half an hour trying to find a parking space at the mall…I’m not that patient!!

Want to hear something odd? The news kept saying it was record sales yet the malls were NOT that busy. Much less so than last year. And we went to well known stores like Macy’s, Bed, Bath & Beyond etc.. Mom lives in a major metropolitan area and we had no problem whatsoever with crowds or parking.

How about arranging to take a tour group with you next year? I wanna have fun and real mashed potatoes too! I’m envious and I’m a guy but having stated that, 5:45AM? I’m a guy. Can’t, it’s genetics.

Some bargains though, I hadn’t realized that maybe it is worth rise and shining, girding for battle and into the fray but you sure did well. But the lines…

How can you lose a pound? Didn’t you have any dressing, filling. stuffing? I wish they’d settle on one name for that. Is shopping that fierce that you lose? What about cookies, candy, pies? You didn’t really eat, did you?

I cooked for 2 friggin’ days, just to have it devoured in about 25 minutes. No way I get up and shop that early ever again. Too many people! I’m glad you saved a bundle, Lisa, and had a lovely time with your mom, though. Some people like to get up and go for it, but I’d rather sleep! :-)

I’m doing a lot of my shopping tomorrow, as well as tonight online. The next few weeks are going to be busy at work, and I won’t feel like shopping after spending all day helping customers with THEIR shopping. LOL. I enjoy it, though, for the most part. You know, there are a few a%%holes, but most people are really nice during the season.

After last year I refuse to shop anywhere but online–screw all that running around in bitchy crowds.

I don’t know how you do it…5am??? GEEZ!!! Not me. I heard about that guy that got trampled in a mob of people for a play station II … He was killed because of it. It gets way too crazy for me on black Friday. I like the “internet Monday” where they have similar sales. :)

Our summer holidays aren’t until the end of the month/new year.

But I’ll be drunk, in a tent, on a friend’s front lawn.

21lbs, you go girl!! You must look awesome!! I spent my holidays with my aunt, uncle and some cousins. I too over indulged a bit. I ate so much of everything else that I didn’t even have room for turkey. I think my favorite was the candied yams or whatever they were. They were so sweet and so delicious…mmmmmm. I did not go shopping on Black Friday. We slept in and then went to brunch and then the movies. :) Glad to hear that you had a good time!

I’m proud of you too, for your success and willpower! Congrats.

First of all, I’m jealous! You lost a lb? I found it! Want it back? LOL!

Nextly, (is that a word?) I shopped here on Thanksgiving Eve. It seemed the mall had the best bargains then so I slept in on Friday and didn’t shop at all.

But there was no weight loss here! Daggone it! I’m proud of you though, both for the weight loss AND the Black Friday bargains ;-D
