Jersey, and Teamsters, and TP, Oh My!

Posted on Tuesday 19 December 2006

Note to self:

Do not EVER leave The City again. Period.

I decided today would be a great day for a Jersey run. I wanted to go to Costco, Target, and Stop & Shop to pick up some stuff for the holidays. I should have gotten my first clue that it was a busy shopping day when it took me damn tourists an hour to get out of New York. Got to love about as much as I love a root canal crosstown traffic! I finally arrived at Costco and you would have thought they were giving stuff away. The parking lot I think it was in the next county was insane! Anyway, I picked up a few things, salivated over the big screen tv’s, and bought gas. $2.10 thank you very much. And I was thrilled about time those scumbags Big Oil choked at the price!

Next stop, Target. I’m now set with this for life. Not to mention various household sundries. Now on to my last store, Stop & Shop. As I was loading up on 12 packs of diet soda, this really cute teamster told me they had a much better price on drinks at Shoprite. And then he winked hi you gorgeous hunk of man at me. Mrrrowwwww!

I then picked up all sorts of reasonably healthy yummy treats for the holidays. Finally after my shopping cart was completely loaded, I went to check out. Over 8 bags for less than $100.00 dollars. THAT rarely happens in Manhattan! Plus the checkout girl and I discussed how we both separately needed to relax over the holidays. Oh and in case you were wondering, I talk to practically everyone. Sort of a mixed blessing sometime, but definitely a fun thing at Stop & Shop!

I loaded up my trunk and headed back to The City. Apparently I didn’t receive the memo that said all the residents was leaving town today. The traffic was insane, not to mention the nonexistent parking. I eventually found after almost mowing down two obnoxious teenagers a space, unloaded all my own bags because my street was blocked asshats, and collapsed. And then came to share my adventures with all of you. Are you flattered or what?!

The things I do for a bargain. Sheesh.

Updated note to self:

Never leave The City again before a holiday weekend.

*snorts*

Yea, right. That’s so gonna happen.

I’ve lived here exactly long enough to know never to leave. It’s not worth the hassle.

Don’t let any guests use the stuff, you worked too darn hard to get it.

Dude, what were you thinking? Oh yeah, the siren call of cheap Jersey stuff. Their gas is the cheapest anywhere – Rick loves it. I am done with the Christmas shopping and will not be setting foot in another store until three days after Christmas. When all of the returns drama is through.

Hey, speaking of holiday weekends, do you wanna go see a movie on Saturday? Like maybe “The Holiday,” if you haven’t seen it already? :)

If I had to limit myself to three stores for the rest of my life, Target, Walgreens and Sams would be my top three.
As for shopping in your neck of the woods: FUGGHETABOUTIT, or is that spelled correctly???
Sheesh. I’d bet shopping with my Drama Diva AND Casper is a close second especially when they’ve had SUGAR.

I just don’t leave my apartment during the holidays, except to go to the grocery store. But then again, I’m like that year around, so it’s no big deal…

That sounds like a good note to hang on to. Jersey is a bit too far away for me to shop there, actually, 2 blocks away is too damn far! ;)

Oooh, I also had a frustrating experience yesterday, except on the other side of the state! I literally drove around South Jersey for three hours (in circles) trying to find an office gift for my old employers that I knew exactly where to find in Philadelphia. But I didn’t want to pay $3 to get back over the bridge and then go BACK into New Jersey to drop off the gift.

There is no good reason to go to NJ. Except my family still lives there, darn them all. :)

If Jersey was closer I’d go there myself, for the lower fuel prices; however, all the good of that advantage sort of gets used up on the trip.

Paul – Good idea. No toilet paper for any of my guests ;-)

Julie – LMAO @ “The siren call of cheap Jersey stuff.” Indeed!

Count me in for the movie! Email coming your way.

Tish – We are SO going shopping when you finally hit NYC ;-)

Bruce – Well ok then :-)

    Se7en – You sound like a NY’er!!!

    Michael – Oh yes :-)

Meg – Jersey can definitely get on my nerves, (but the shopping is good!)

Golfwidow – It does seem like a deal breaker ;-)

I don’t live in NYC and even I know not to go to Jersey. Bargains or no. It’s JERSEY for God’s sake!

I think traffic is nuts everywhere this time of year. I slip quietly to work and back, avoiding all malls in my travel. I did have to go to Costco last weekend. The good thing about Costco is that it’s always nuts so holidays are only slightly different. I would hate having to leave the city (and the state for that matter) for such supply runs, though. I talk to people out in the world too. *sigh*

First of all, trekking over to Jersey to shop during this time of year—or on ANY given Saturday afternoon is a bloody nightmare Lisa! The Garden State is a horror! That’s why they literally close off everything on Sundays—thank God. A day of rest! :)

Funny, I had to go into the city today and it was disastrous.

And not for nothing, but its all the NY’ers coming into Jersey that make things so wacky at this time of year. That’s why I do all my shopping online these days!

I like to buy stuff online. This way I avoid human contact.

Come to think of it, it ties in w/my social life.

Even here in the sticks, I prefer to Christmas shop online. However, I will have to venture out for groceries soon. I’d better get them before the weekend!

Over eight bags for less than $100? Truly impressive.

When I’m out shopping, I talk to practically everyone, too. You never know what info people will decide to share in a long line at Costco. Mind-boggling…

hell, i get cranky when the traffic is crazy here in bumfuck nowhere. I’d probably pop some blood vessels if I had to deal with city traffic!

The commute in and out of the city has been a royal bitch this week…it’s always a bitch…this week a royal one. Lots of cars and lots of stupid people driving them. Oh well…happy holidays.

Oh, and apparently we use the same TP.

    And you’ve got email.

Its amazing that you can drive in MANHATTAN AND THROUGH THE TUNNEL!

8 bags for $100 or less is good!!

Though I really miss the individual shops you get in the village.

MISSING NJ ANYWAY as my sis lives there!

I would love to live close enough to be able to fight the tri-state traffic. Funny how it’s all about perspective. Happy Holidays

I absolutely loathe this time of year, especially because of the people on the effin roads. Retards, all of them.

You will hurt me when I say this, we have no sales tax here and there were no crowds today at Stop and Shop or Target or Petsmart when I went shopping and there was no traffic. It was a thing of beauty. No lines either.

I hate to say this, I wouldn’t go thru all of that for a bargain. No way. I have to give you your props.
