Being the highly evolved, esoteric person that I am, this is the conversation I had the other night.
Se7en: “What are you up to?”
Lisa: “I just finished watching this really charming movie which I adored in the theater. Have you ever seen it? It’s called “Love Actually.”
Se7en: “Is that the one where Hugh Grant is the prime minister?”
Lisa: “Yup. I really like him in this film.”
Se7en: “I can’t stand Hugh Grant, he’s so wooden and boring.”
Lisa laughs. “All the men say that, they’re just jealous of how much women like him.”
Se7en with heavy sarcasm. “Oh like I’m jealous of him being caught with a hooker. Yea, I’m jealous all right.”
Lisa: “That’s beside the point, anyway he is great in the movie.”
Se7en: “He’s ok I guess.”
Lisa is getting annoyed. “You never like any of the movies I like, all you do is criticize them.”
Se7en: “I said Hugh Grant was a pretty good actor.”
Lisa: “No you didn’t, you said he was ok.”
Se7en: “He’s actually a very good actor.”
Lisa: “Oh now he’s a very good actor? Well, I don’t like some of the stuff you enjoy either but I don’t say anything.”
Se7en: “Why are you getting all grumpy?”
Lisa: “I mean the bands you like, Godsmack and Killswitch. Come on! They sound like screaming tone deaf hyenas. On crack.”
Se7en starts to laugh. “Oh on crack? Well they must be bad then.”
Good thing I never claimed to be mature or anything.
Very funny but that’s not completely true!! I think I said more along the lines of “but I like screaming tone deaf hyenas on crack! and your point?”
LMAO! I am sure you were totally right though… you must have been, being the woman ‘n all…
Hmm, what does it mean to my guyhood that I agree with you, Lisa? Is this something I need to worry about? Or am I just “highly evolved?”
You get a pass on maturity if it was a text IM or even worse, phone text (that sounds like….. with a lisp.)
Anyway, men are jealous of guys who don’t get caught with a hooker. (I’ve heard.)
Hugh Grant’s a great actor, very funny. The only candidate I’d choose to remake old Cary Grant movies.
Whoever names bands and music groups, say, beginning in the 60’s to the present has constantly been on crack.
I wonder how the conversation would have gone if Martine McCutcheon, Keira Knightley or Laura Linney had been the subject, hmmm? Just sayin’
I am sorry but I must agree with Seven. Hugh Grant just seems like a wuss. And he has really bad taste in hookers.
Eek…you’re dissing Godsmack? For shame, Lisa; for shame.
And Se7en and Fuzz are right about Hugh Grant. I mean, why would any man cheat on Elizabeth Hurley?
Well, I’m not a huge Hugh Grant fan, but the Wife likes him and I like watching movies with the Wife. So, I’ll tolerate it.
I also like Se7en’s taste in music.
I liked that movie too and I liked Hugh Grant in it. I thought he was really good. I don’t find him attractive, but I do like him.
Se7 – Details, shmetails
DutchBitch – But of course! LOL.
Bud – I feel certain your manhood is still in place
Paul – I love Hugh Grant, (and I totally believe he’s a modern day Cary Grant.)
Seamus – Something for you to ponder
Fuzz – Typical macho guy talk lol. But I agree with you about his taste in hookers.
Bruce – I’m holding my head in shame – um NOT
Vince – What a nice hubby you are! And you and Se7 should enjoy, I’ll pass thanks!
Leave – I really liked him in that movie too.
I’d never thought about Hugh being sort of Cary Grantish, but now that you mention it, Paul, I can really see that. I like him okay but I haven’t seen that movie. It sounds like Se7en is a gentleman with a high degree of woman tolerance and and funky taste in music (but we already knew that). Funny post, Lisa. I hope you have a nice week, darlin’.
Though I have a thing for British actors, I have to say…….Hugh Grant does nothin’ for me. If anyone compares to Cary Grant, for me, it’s the debonaire Dermot Mulroney. I can’t figure out why that guy hasn’t been more popular as a leading man!
Just because of the conversation we had last night, I will be watching Love Actually this evening. While I finish decorating the tree.
And yaaay, no root canal!!
I’ve never seen “Love Actually” cuz I don’t do chick flicks, but I’m not nuts about Hugh Grant either. He’s just too pretentious for me.
LOVE ACTUALLY was nothing short of wonderful! BABEL is kind of like LOVE ACTUALLY, except not very good.
Seriously, I’ve never encountered a soul who didn’t confess to liking LOVE ACTUALLY.
I hate to get into the middle here, but to be honest I can’t stand Hugh Grant… period.
Hey, I like Godsmack!
But yeah, men always hate on the good looking actors we like. Its all jealousy.
godsmack is awesome! and hugh grant is OK.
guess I’m with se7en on this one…. *ducking*
Well, you are RIGHT about those bands and RIGHT about Hugh and the film. What’s the problem?????
Well, it is really worth sexual deprivation to argue with a woman about popular music and film talent.
Having said that, Hugh Grant could not be the prime minister of the prime RIB at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in real life, so if you half-assed believed the movie, it must be pretty good. And that movie probably deeply impacted my worldview, even though I have not seen it or heard of it.
And I am old, so I don’t like any music after the Buckinghams or the Grass Roots–except for anything sung by drunken sailors, because they put so much heart & soul into it.
I like newer Godsmack and Hugh Grant can be quite charming and boyish… I haven’t seen Love Actually but I probably should.
I’m with Denny. I can’t stomach Hugh Grant.
Lissssssssa. I am going to be in the city on December 20th! Would love to get together with you and Deni that evening! Will you be around?

I like Godsmack. And I don’t want to like Hugh Grant, but I can’t help it; he’s talented and charming. The bastard.
Cut me some slack – at least I don’t like Creed. Blegh.
Sophmom – LOL @ “funky taste in music!”
You have a good week too
Annie – I really like Dermot too, but LOVED Hugh in “Four weddings & a funeral”
Julie – Sounds like a great night to me!
And BIG YAY on no root canal.
Serra – Different strokes
Thinking Fool – It’s a very charming “feel good” movie. Almost a guilty pleasure.
Denny – Typical guy
True Jersey Girl- Great to see you!
And tis ok lol.
Dawn – You BETTER run
Nat – Exactly! Glad to see you agree lol.
Zen – ROFLMAO @ prime minister of prime rib! Very funny!
Inanna – I think you would enjoy the movie.
CP – Gasp!
Email coming your way later today!
Golfwidow – Damn him
So far no Killswitch fans I see….. Bwahahahahahaha!
Hmm, sounds like a waffle job to me. On Se7en’s part, I mean.
I don’t know for SURE but I hear that Killswitch is played for all detainees in Gitmo. Just saying…
