Birthday Recap

Posted on Thursday 1 February 2007

I think I am just about done celebrating my birthday and I had so much fun! My birthday week was all about friends. And family. And food. And partying. I had a wonderful time. LOVED IT!

Because you asked, (well Bud did anyway,) here are a few of the highlights:

(FYI, it’s Restaurant Week here, so great prices on three course meals. It’s twice a year and I try to hit as many different restaurants as I can. Great way to visit the pricey places at a reasonable cost.)

Last Friday was lunch with Last Girl on Earth aka my lovely friend, Deni, at Union Square Cafe. It was cold outside and warm inside, (and the bottle of wine didn’t hurt!) I always love hanging out with Deni.

My dear friend, Annie Dennison, sent me a special birthday package. Highlights included a green and purple birthday tiara with just a touch of purple marabou. Oh and several purple lei’s. And a beautiful pair of earrings. I adorned myself with all as I opened my gifts and drank my coffee. I looked lovely!

Sunday Brunch at Sarabeth’s, and then the movie Babel with my always fun buddy, Julie. The pumpkin muffins, desserts, and company were outstanding! We both adored the movie but I highly recommend going to the bathroom before you see it, I think it’s around 3 hours. Julie always makes me laugh – she is a riot!

Mom was my first call on my actual birthday. I always look forward to that. She gave me a beautiful pale blue cashmere afghan for those chilly winter nights. It’s so pretty! She is such a great Mom.

And the ever dear and charming Se7en was my second phone call. Plus he sent me elegant earrings that got several oohs and ahhs from various friends. The man has taste!

Finally, last night was my birthday supper party. 11 of us elegantly dined at Zoe. It was a very congenial group, including Deni and Last Guy, Julie, Boogie and some non-blogger friends. The food was yummy, I had Porcini Mushroom Soup, Pan Roasted Sea Bass and Warm Lemon Pudding Cake. And a glass or two of Chardonnay. Everyone either knew each other or knew of each other. It was so much fun – we all laughed ourselves silly!

Alas, no cake from Sweet Lady Jane. Sigh. But you know what? I had such a great time that I didn’t really miss it. Much. Maybe next year.

Thanks for all your lovely thoughts and wishes. You guys are the best! And a special thank you to my friends and loved ones who made this birthday so absolutely wonderful. Just wait until YOUR birthday!

Glad you had a good one!

Wow, fantastic week and you deserve it. Glad you got all that good stuff in. Who needs the cake? Thanks so much for giving us a rundown on how it went. So nice you got to spend it with good friends. I am officially ignoring my B-day for now on but I’m glad you still enjoy them.

Woman, YOU know how to celebrate a birthday!

Makes me happy today that it was such a good one for you, though I wish I could have been there, sharing some of that warm lemon pudding cake with you.

I hope that the tiara keeps making you smile – and reminding you how special you are :)

(Man, you put a lot of importance on this birthday thing–the guy you are dating better have a “three alarm”-system with his computer, answering service, ball above his bed that drops on his head, etc.

Have you ever thought about dating a professional clown? I mean, wouldn’t that be a great birthday–a clown who pulled up in a pastel little car, made you a balloon dog, honked a little horn, and then popped the balloon dog…and there was jewelry inside?

Women also like a man WITH AN AGENDA…”My life’s work is being a clown” is one hell of a focused agenda, if you ask me!! That’s a guy who knows what he wants: It would involve special training, expert make-up and costume skills, etc. Also, you could both share show-business gossip: Though his would be stuff about a midget and a bearded lady, and yours would be stuff about taking some actor’s gerbil to the vet.

I dunno–I have not really thought that much about the birthday thing since I was twelve, and the last one I really liked had a clown at it…)

And to blog about it. Most of my friends are happy for me that I actually had some fun for a change.

Great Googly Moogly! I missed it! My darling, dulcet LB, can you ever forgive me? What if I bribe you with one of those cakes?

A most glorious of happy belated birthdays to you, darling. It sounds like you were treated as royally and reverentially as you so deserve on your buon natale and I’m indeed glad for you. Did Ally have a special smile and kissy-poo for you?
