Well we made it. Two and a half days of driving later we’re finally here. We arrived yesterday about an hour ahead of a flash flood.
Where is “here” you ask?
THE GREAT STATE OF TEXAS!
Yes I’m finally giving it up, folks, Yours Truly is a Texas Gal!!!
I’m still not sharing the city though.
No whining! Hey, you got the state after only two years – you’re doing good here!
Anyway, we arrived. And we were tired pups. All three of us. We got here about 4:00p.m. and we were so happy to get out of the car. Especially Ally da Pup. As I mentioned before, she is not a fan of road trips. And she likes thunderstorms even less. More on that in the next post.
Here are a few of the highlights…
I finally experienced Waffle House. Twice in fact. And I heart their pecan waffles. Absolutely yummy!
Ally da Pup was a rock star in every state. My favorite comment came at a Tennessee rest stop, “Ma’am can you please tell me what kind of little ole dawg that is? Cause I been around dawgs my whole life and I never seen one like that. She shore is purty.” Indeed.
Virginia and Tennessee are absolutely beautiful. Nuff said.
After nonstop fast food for the first day and a half, Se7en and I were determined to stop in Nashville for a “real” meal. We headed towards downtown and found a restaurant that had outdoor seating. Ally was allowed to sit outside next to the railing. She had her water bowl in front of her and promptly sat down in front of the outdoor menu that was posted. Everyone passing by had to notice her, (and did.) It was very funny. Se7en and I loved our meals which was just the icing on the cake.
As we were driving through Arkansas I noticed a motel in the middle of nowhere. It was in kind of a desolate location, and I didn’t see any other shops/fast food/gas stations nearby. It did however feature a “XXX Adult Entertainment” store only steps away. I looked for the local brothel but couldn’t see it from the interstate. Oh well.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was meeting the absolutely wonderful Tish. We’ve been buddies for a while but haven’t been able to hook up when I’ve been in Texas before. I emailed her when I had an idea of when we would be in her neck of the woods. We arranged a meeting place, she drove up and we gave each other the biggest hug. I felt like we had known each other forever. Tish insisted on treating us to Bryce’s which has been on Food Network many times. And it was DIVINE! I ate a week’s worth of carbs in one sitting but damn it was worth it. I can’t wait for Tish to come to New York so I can return her gracious hospitality.
O.K. I am wiped out, more to come later. I’m going to get horizontal on Mom’s couch now.
You’ll always be a Georgia girl to me.
You finally had WAFFLE HOUSE? MMMMM. I had me some last week in AZ, too. Scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, and diced, baby!
Pecan waffles are the best, too!
Enjoy the heat!!
The first thing I do upon arriving in Virginia on visits is to make my grandmother take me to Waffle House because I am thoroughly addicted to the pecan waffles. Sounds like a pretty good trip so far.
Oh my gosh, I’m so jealous, it sounds like such a fun trip!!! If you come visit me, I’ll take you out to Paula Deens!!!!! The Lady & Sons – yummy buffet! Glad you’re having a good trip and got to experience Bryce’s.
Isn’t VA beautiful – I miss it so much sometimes….
My Waffle House fav? Hashbrowns double covered, diced and smothered. (Extra cheese, tomatoes and onions)
Ha! We be twins, for Tisha also took me to Bryce’s once upon a time. Only it’s pronounced “Brassies” — you know how them southern belles talk.
so did you pick up some porn at that truck stop?
I lived in Texas for 20 years up until 5 years ago. I am back in my native state of VA.
You have to have lots of Tex-Mex… that’s the one thing I absolutely cannot get here.
Nothing like a ROADTRIP.
Sounds like a great road trip! Did you stop at every cheesy tourist trap along the way?
We definitely had a great trip, we’ll have to do it again. Soon! LOL I’m looking forward to it
I am so tired though, I think I could sleep for a week!!
No speeding tickets?
Wow! Sounds like you are having a great time. And so glad that Ally is considered purty! LOL
Have fun on the rest of the trip!
You went to Bryce’s – color me jealous.
(Also, Waffle House, where I have never once ordered a waffle. I like their hash browns too much.)
Most importantly, the three of you got to your destination in one piece (each) and the vehicle is still working. Go you guys.
Glad you had a great trip down…. sounds like you had a blast! Get some sleep!
@ Retro: I know
@ Nat: Good stuff, eh?
@ Dagny: I can see why you’re addicted – those pecan waffles are sublime!
@ Mappy: Expect an email from me soon, we may go back that direction… and I would love to hang out with you!
@ Hoss: It was wonderful!
@ Cajun: I’ll never tell
@ Mizmell: We had Tex-Mex upon arrival lol.
@ Vince: Nah cause I wouldn’t “lighten up.”
@ Se7: Get your rest now cause the return is coming soon! That was fun
@ Thinking Fool: Nope. The joys of cruise control.
@ DutchBitch: Thanks! And I love that my Ally is so purty
@ GW: I adored Bryce’s. YUMMY!!!! And I’m also delighted we got here safe and sound. Thanks!
@ Janet: Thanks! I’m working on it
I’m glad you both enjoyed the way down and arrived safely!
And I figured you for a Georgia or South Carolina gal! You must be a south of Corpus Christi or San Antonio gal is my guess now
I’ve been there and that’s the southernest parts of TX I know, lol!
As for your dinner in TN, I’m surprised you & Se7en didn’t try the great TN bar-b-ques or chicken dinners or whiskey steaks… but if icing was all you wanted… *shrug*
I’ll post you on my upcoming surgery. Fingers crossed we can still meet up on your way back
Happy landing! Pecan waffles from WH are the bestest! Hope you two are catching up on your rest and having a blast too.
If you do, let’s meet up! Just let me know, Savannah is a fun place to eat lots of food in – and the open container policy makes drinking and walking around downtown fun too! Woo Hoo!
I heart roadtrip food – no calories, right??
Glad to hear Ally da Pup has not been too traumatized by her travels
Texas? Don’t drown!
When we don’t want something, we say “Texas on that.” You know, El Paso? I’ll pass? Ha-ha.
Have a great rest of your trip!!!! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your adventures.
So Arkansas was the highlight, then?
– david
You there already?
Wow, I stand transfixed at the thought of you and Tish in the same place. That had to be fun, some people are meant to meet; you’re two of them because of the characters inside.
Texas huh? Well, that narrows it considerably. Such a small place.
Have fun!
Lisa: That makes You, Deni and myself as three people who have experienced Waffle House. Ally is really a Champ. All in all-have FUN!!!!
sounds like fun! you two enjoy yourselves!
Well, I’m glad ya’ll got down there safe and sound!!
Sounds like some interesting stops along the way as well.
You on your way back yet??
The Waffle House had a link for Career Opportunities so if I ever decide to relocate to Texas and work for free pecan waffles!
Sounds like it was a fun trip… I’ll have to go back to Sev7en’s blog he posted pictures!
Any of ya’ll that ever get this way, we’ll go to Bryce’s and chat up a storm about the dearest NY chick I know – Lisa.
