Dance Like A Rock Star

Posted on Saturday 5 April 2008

Last night I went to an early dinner with a friend, then came home and hung out. I had downloaded some songs to my iPod earlier in the week, and hadn’t had time to listen to them yet. I put on my headphones and cranked up the tunes. Of course I had downloaded my usual goofy vintage 70’s/80’s music for my gym playlist.

A sampling:

“Celebration” – Kool and The Gang
“Another one bites the dust” – Queen
“We will rock you” – Queen
“Nights on Broadway” – Bee Gees
“Hungry like a wolf” – Duran Duran
“Dont Cha” – The Pussycat Dolls (more recent but still rocks!)

O.K. I’m a dork, your point?

Next thing I know I’m doing a Tom Cruise in “Risky Business.” I stripped down to my skivvies and danced like a wild thing. And I did it for about 30 minutes.

AND I LOVED IT!!!

Sometimes you just gotta get up and dance, you know?

I have never been capable of “dancing like I don’t care who’s watching.” I am envious.

The first three pieces of music I ever owned—on 8-track tape—were Billy Joel’s Fifty-Second Street, Abba Gold, and the Bee Gees’ Tragedy.

I still don’t know any music better, after all these years.

First of all, you’ll never hear me complain to anyone that downloads Queen.

Second, thinking of you dancing in your skivvies makes me need a cold shower. Invite me over next time you decide to do that.

A visual aid–like a video–of you dancing in your underwear would have facilitated my learning experience today.

In the age of YouTube, it is refreshing to think that there are people out there still willing to dance to “Celebration”.

The thought of you dancing in your skivvies doesn’t bring an image of dork to my mind at all.

Queen is not goofy. Now the Bee Gees, on the other hand… ;)

And now is when I admit that I downloaded a whole bunch of hair band music over the weekend.

Gee, I thought I just read in Cosmo that dork is the new hot.
Ain’t nothing wrong with dancing with wild abandon to classic rock in our undies.
I mean, we danced to them back then with bad hair and even worse jumpsuits. I mean, really!
