No More Wacky Wabbits

*Rolls over and gasps*

Wha? Oh wow, another weird dream. There were rabbits, and a scary Red Queen who was screaming for my head, and a smirking cat, and all sorts of weird and wacky creatures.

Oh and Tea. Lots and lots of tea and cookies.

I’m awake now, whew!

Anyway, a quick summary of what I’ve been up to since I last saw you…

The Tea was WAY fun.

My favorite desserts were brown sugar brownies, tea time tassies, (bite size pecan pies,) homemade scones with lemon curd, and a divine rum cake.

It was hot as hell in Texas, with temps in the balmy 90-100 range.

Mom and I had a great time baking and hanging out. Oh and of course we bought shoes. Even better, we bought shoes ON SALE! I got some really sexy high heels as well as some casual ones. My feet were killing me after the tea but my legs looked GREAT, (she modestly says.)

Lots of meetings since I got back in town. Some interesting things in the mix which I can’t discuss right now.

Hot Cute Fun Guy and I have been having a ball. We’re quite inseparable. Me likey!

There are so many interesting things to do in NY in the summer. Yummy dining al fresco, awesome concerts, (Steely Dan this weekend!) and outdoor sculpture gardens.

That’s it for now. Thanks for checking up on me! I’ll be around to visit all your blogs and catch up later today. I missed you guys!

Glad to see you back after such a long absence. I am one of your newest readers, but was glad to see my RSS reader “ping” with a new post after your long absence.

Glad that the tea was fun. I bet it would have been a riot to be there. I had imagined based on your last post several generations of Southern Belles, maybe a Steel Magnolia or two in the mix, with lots of hats and flowered dresses. Were there any mint juleps contributing to unintended hilarity?

For those of us in the Greater New York area, it’s a little scary to compare the temps in our recent heat wave and realize that our temps make us indistinguishable from Texas in the late spring. Noo Yawkers pride themselves on being able to say, “no matter how hot it is, at least it’s not like a summer in Texas.” No more… ‘Tis one of the least of the things we all stand to lose in global warming.

I’m glad you found so many cool shoes. As an unrepentant (and hopelessly heterosexual) fashionista-wannabe, I can appreciate the fun in a successful shoe-shopping expedition. (I am still reveling in my most recent shoe-shopping success, scored when I was on vacation on Memorial Day weekend).

And, yes, there are a lot of cool things to do in NYC over the summer. Sculpture gardens are great. You score many points in my book for having discovered the Pepsico Sculpture Garden, a true treasure of a place, with phenomenal world-class works of art in an incredible park-like setting, and it’s all free! I took my son there frequently starting at around age 6 and he’s still got the lifelong love of art and architecture that it helped engender. You should also try Storm King Art Center, about an hour north of NYC. It’s right down the road from the legendary Woodbury Common Outlet Mall, which has tons of designer shoes at incredible discounts. My son had better have a love of art and architecture to sustain him in later years, because God knows I’ve spent enough of his inheritance at Woodbury Common on the way back from Storm King.

The NYC concert scene is great, especially if you’re a True Fan of various groups, because EVERYBODY plays NY when they’re on tour, typically at least one show. If you’re a Springsteen fan, when he plays NYC, he typically plays 15 or 18 nights just over the river in New Jersey, not just one night before moving on as he would in Columbus or Denver. So even the most die-hard fans can get their fill. If you can get tickets, that is… Unfortunately, everything sells out in the first two minutes… Including 18 Springsteen shows.

But I digress. Welcome back. Have a great summer! Keep us up on your adventures.

FROM LISA B.: Thanks CleverPoet! I always love your well thought out and charming comments :-)

No mint juleps, but lots and lots of sweets. Which can almost knock you down faster than booze!

And you bought cool shoes as well? Got to love my metrosexual readers ;-)

The Pepsico Garden is an amazing place. HCFG and I had a blast. Perfect weather to walk around, and the sculptures and garden were amazing. Loved it! Glad to know you and your son also visit there. I was amazed at how few people know about it…

I’m unbelievably jazzed about Steely Dan. I hope you have the opportunity to see them as well. I know it’s going to be wonderful!

    Thanks for coming around!!!

Lisa! I have missed your presence. Oh, and Steely Dan. I think they’re going to be in Berkeley next month. I so want to go.

FROM LISA B.: Dagny, I feel the same! As for S.D., scroll down to Cap. Poet’s response to you about tickets…

    Dagny,

Re Steely Dan in Berkeley: They’re going to be at the Greek (home court of the Grateful Dead when I was in school there) on July 26. I can’t go because it’s my high school reunion in LA. They’re also playing the old Paul Masson Winery in Saratoga on the 28th. I tried to get tickets for that show but they sold out quickly. It appears that tickets are findable on Craigslist.

FROM LISA B.: Thanks for sharing that info, CleverPoet!

“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

The cat has a point. :)

FROM LISA B.: So noted, Teri ;-)

I missed you. Glad you’re back. I’m working on a Mahopac gig. Perhaps you will get up to see me?

Glad your Texas romp involved shoes AND food. My wife makes those tassies but calls them pecan patties. Pretty damn good whatever you call them.

FROM LISA B.: I missed you as well, Bud. As for Mahopac that definitely is an option. Let’s talk further and see if we can make it work…

And the tea time tassies are good whatever you call them!

Welcome back–sounds like a lovely trip. Yes, lovely.

I missed The Dan on then band’s swing by here last summer. I was too slow to go for tix, and the small-venue show sold out almost instantly. So the group remains one of the few I would like to see and have not (Dave Matthews Band gets crossed off the list next weekend.)

I LOVE pecan tassies and scones! I love the thought of you in high heels more.

BTW, I’ll be in NYC in September so perhaps a blogger meet might be in the cards? I’m going to try and hook up with as many NYC bloggers as I can while I’m out there. Hope to see you!

If you can’t discuss, why did you tell us you had a secret? Fiddle, faddle. I think I’ll squeal on you, tell your secret before you’re ready. How about that, huh? Now all I need is to know what the secret is. Please spill.
