OK, now I want to hear about your songs – good and bad!

Fess up.

It was warm in the house and I didn’t feel like putting my workout gear on, so I wore my nightie and added tube socks and running shoes. Quite goofy fetching, I’m sure. I then added a hair scrunchie, my iPod and headphones to this oh-so-attractive ensemble. I began to exercise and slowly built momentum. I was about 30 minutes in, endorphins pumping away, when one of my favorite songs from my gym playlist started up. Yes folks, “Y.M.C.A.” courtesy of The Village People, started cranking through my headphones. And I started bopping! The worst part of all? I caught sight of myself in the mirror doing the “Y.M.C.A.” dance. You know how you form all the individual letters with your arms and body? Well, I was doing it. While still walking on the treadmill. With a smile on my face.

I’m not sure which is worse, that I did the “Y.M.C.A.” dance or that I actually knew it.

There goes my cool card.

But this time there’s a bit of a twist.

I’ve decided to give plane travel a giant pass I’d rather have a root canal this time around and try something different. So, without further ado…

I’M GOING ON A ROAD TRIP!

I’m not just whistling Dixie here, my friends – I’m heading South! And I’m taking some mighty fine company along for the ride.

Se7en is being a wonderful pal and joining me for this long ass drive. He’s flying to New York this weekend, and come Monday we’re out of here. Oh and Ally da Pup is going as well.

And we’re gonna have us an adventure!

I’m sure we’ll enjoy lots of fried chicken, fried shrimp, and fried everything-else-you-can-possibly-fry on the drive down. Just don’t make me drink any of that nasty sweet tea. I hate the stuff!

And I’m equally sure my New York license plates are going to go over really well as I’m speeding along the various southern interstates.

Did I mention that Ally is not a fan of long car rides? Thank heaven and the vet for doggie tranquilizers.

Never a dull moment, eh?

I am really looking forward to spending a couple of weeks with my Mother. Things are much better with our friend but I’m still going to hang around for a bit. Plus I have some very busy clients in that neck of the woods. And Mom mentioned something about my finally cleaning out an old closet. Crap! I’ve successfully avoided that for over 10 years now. Busted!

Anyway, back to the trip…

You may remember that that Se7en and I have totally different tastes in music. That will definitely make things interesting. Oh well, that’s what iPod’s and MP3 players are for. And headphones.

Julz post got me thinking about what music I have on my iPod. Like many people, I have playlists for different moods. In anticipation of hitting the gym again, I created a playlist strictly for working out. And you know what?

Come closer cause this is kind of embarassing.

I’ve always really liked that movie, it’s charming and fun. Great soundtrack as well! And I must admit, I have always had a jones for John Travolta. Can that man dance or what?

Just watching him walk is hot! It’s also fun to see vintage Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, and Jeff Conway strut their stuff.

Every time I watch the movie though, (even as a kid,) I take exception to the film’s ending. Why did Sandy (Newton-John) have to turn into the tramp?

Why did she change for him???

Why didn’t Danny, (Travolta) change for her? I know he tried, i.e. becoming a jock and lettering in track. Well, it worked, damn it! He should have stayed with the new lifestyle. Why did Sandy then decide to give up her nice girl way of life and become a slutty bad girl with a limited future? No matter how good she looked in black leather and high heels! Did neither of them not realize they would have a better life as upstanding citizens? How much future would their be for black leather wearing, cigarette smoking, hot rodding, partying, 50’s rejects?

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!

Grease always did upset my feminist sensibilities.

Se7en: “What are you up to?”

Lisa: “I just finished watching this really charming movie which I adored in the theater. Have you ever seen it? It’s called “Love Actually.”

Se7en: “Is that the one where Hugh Grant is the prime minister?”

Lisa: “Yup. I really like him in this film.”

Se7en: “I can’t stand Hugh Grant, he’s so wooden and boring.”

Lisa laughs. “All the men say that, they’re just jealous of how much women like him.”

Se7en with heavy sarcasm. “Oh like I’m jealous of him being caught with a hooker. Yea, I’m jealous all right.”

Lisa: “That’s beside the point, anyway he is great in the movie.”

Se7en: “He’s ok I guess.”

Lisa is getting annoyed. “You never like any of the movies I like, all you do is criticize them.”

Se7en: “I said Hugh Grant was a pretty good actor.”

Lisa: “No you didn’t, you said he was ok.”

Se7en: “He’s actually a very good actor.”

Lisa: “Oh now he’s a very good actor? Well, I don’t like some of the stuff you enjoy either but I don’t say anything.”

Se7en: “Why are you getting all grumpy?”

Lisa: “I mean the bands you like, Godsmack and Killswitch. Come on! They sound like screaming tone deaf hyenas. On crack.”

Se7en starts to laugh. “Oh on crack? Well they must be bad then.”

Good thing I never claimed to be mature or anything.

Anyway as I walked towards the platform, I heard some lovely soft violin music wafting around the waiting area. I especially appreciate the classical folks in the morning, because their music relaxes me amidst all the people rushing around. I started to listen to the beautiful melody, and then suddenly I recognized the song.

Perhaps I am a tad oversensitive, but in light of all the terrorist threats New York City has received in the last few years, I hardly think “Nearer My God to Thee” was the best choice of music. Wait, you don’t know that song? Ever hear of the Titanic? Well, that particular musical offering was believed to be the last thing most people heard as the ship sank to it’s watery grave. The brave orchestra played until they could play no more.

I have to wonder if that subway musician was trying to send a message?

Tough luck, buddy, MESSAGE DELETED. Bring on the Motown! I’ll take The Temptations, The Four Tops or The Supremes in my subway, thank you very much!
