I caught the movie “Grease” on cable the other night.

I’ve always really liked that movie, it’s charming and fun. Great soundtrack as well! And I must admit, I have always had a jones for John Travolta. Can that man dance or what?

Just watching him walk is hot! It’s also fun to see vintage Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, and Jeff Conway strut their stuff.

Every time I watch the movie though, (even as a kid,) I take exception to the film’s ending. Why did Sandy (Newton-John) have to turn into the tramp?

Why did she change for him???

Why didn’t Danny, (Travolta) change for her? I know he tried, i.e. becoming a jock and lettering in track. Well, it worked, damn it! He should have stayed with the new lifestyle. Why did Sandy then decide to give up her nice girl way of life and become a slutty bad girl with a limited future? No matter how good she looked in black leather and high heels! Did neither of them not realize they would have a better life as upstanding citizens? How much future would their be for black leather wearing, cigarette smoking, hot rodding, partying, 50’s rejects?

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!

Grease always did upset my feminist sensibilities.

It’s sooo hot in New York. It’s STEAMY, damn it! In the immortal words of Neil Simon,”It’s like Africa Hot. Tarzan couldn’t take this kind of hot.” You ain’t just whistling Dixie, Eugene Morris Jerome! Anyway, yesterday was 90 degrees and about a million percent humidity, (ok a wee bit of exaggeration.) Today is more of the same as is tomorrow. And the day after that? Somewhere around 98 degrees. YIKES, when did I move back to the South?! I’m not sure if this has anything to do with global warming, the ozone layer being eroded on an hourly basis, or it’s just <strike>fucking</strike> summer time. I am SO not a summer kid! Give me snow and sweaters anytime over sweat and heat. I remember reading this book when I was younger and the author described a “sultry” night. I thought that sounded so sexy until I found out it just meant HUMID. Sigh.

My <strike>window unit</strike> air conditioner is blasting, the oscillating fan is blowing, and I am pretty sure Con Ed is going to put a lien on all my future earnings. Ally da Pup is comfy as am I. The dog walks are <strike>mercifully brief</strike> less than fun but hey what can you do? Nada I guess. I’m fantasizing about icy cold alcoholic drinks, a cool ocean breeze and Raoul the Cabana Boy gently waving a palm frond my direction.

Bigger sigh. Oh well. Pass the iced tea will ya? And NOT the sweet tea, Oob! That stuff is NASTY.

*shudders*
